水無月

In Kyoto, there is a habit of eating the Japanese confectionery called "水無月(Minaduki)" on June 30th.

Minaduki is a confectionery prepared by placing azuki beans on white Uiro (a sort of sweetened steamed cake made of rice powder) and then cutting it into triangular shapes.
It is said that azuki beans on Minaduki have the meaning of warding off evil spirits, and triangular shape expresses ice beating the heat away.
I ate Minaduki for praying for safety of the family and state of perfect health over the year though away from Kyoto today.
